GCE at GAWE 2025

Spread the word

Global Action Week for Education (GAWE) 2025 rallied members worldwide around the theme “Education Saves Lives – Protect Education in Emergencies!”. The report showcases how coalitions across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Europe organised marches, school activities, webinars, cultural events and media campaigns to defend the right to education for learners affected by conflict, displacement, disasters and other crises.

Across countries, civil society brought together students, teachers, communities and policymakers to highlight funding gaps, attacks on schools, and barriers faced by girls, persons with disabilities, refugees and other marginalised groups. Their advocacy called for safe learning spaces, protection of teachers and students, resilient and inclusive education systems, and sustained, transparent financing for education in emergencies.

The report underlines how GAWE 2025 strengthened partnerships between governments and civil society, highlighted youth voices, and generated concrete commitments, from temporary learning centres and digital classrooms to reforms in education laws, to ensure that education remains a non‑negotiable right, even in times of crisis.
